Trauma Informed Approach

Trauma is 'anything that is too much, too soon, or too fast (or too little for too long) for our nervous system to handle, especially if we can't reach a successful resolution.  Trauma is not an event, but the energy that gets locked in our body around real or perceived threat' (Peter Levine).

Trauma is a complex and multifaceted issue.  It can range from more acute and isolated stressors, such as a car accident or physical assault, to more pervasive and ongoing events, such as childhood abuse or neglect, relational trauma, discrimination and so on.

Trauma is 'any event that overwhelms the ordinary human adaptions to life.  The event leaves us powerless or helpless with losses of control, dignity, connection, sense of belonging, or meaning', (Judith Herman).

I am highly trained to work with you at your own pace to address your individual needs through the use of artmaking, conversation, yoga, somatic work and EMDR.

I will help you learn how to help yourself by connecting mind, body and soul, relieving the physiological effects of traumatic stress through knowing how to regulate your nervous system so that you can move forwards feeling more balanced.  My aim is to help you to embrace your true self and to help you to strengthen a more positive relationship with yourself with safety and holistic acceptance.

By courageously committing to your healing journey, you are taking the first step to recovery and to the compassionate heart of your wisest self.

'Trauma is not what happens to a person, it's what happens within them' (Gabor Mate).

You have the ability to heal and I commit to helping you with that by strengthening and building your resources and creating a sense of safety for you to find the answers that lie within you.
